Libraries host graduate student orientation events

Open houses showcased library resources and services

Three people stand at the front of a room before an audience; a slide on the screen behind them reads "Welcome to MIT Libraries! Graduate Student Orientation."On August 27, the Libraries’ graduate student orientation brought excitement, knowledge, and helpfulness to incoming graduate students as a new academic year began. The Libraries hosted two sessions of graduate student orientation for incoming graduate students to learn about the resources and services the Libraries offer. The morning session welcomed more than 40 graduate students, and the afternoon session welcomed more than 30 graduate students.

Both sessions started with a welcome and a presentation that included physical spaces, research support, and data services, followed by an opportunity for graduate students to ask questions. They then visited six tables of various library services to learn about instruction and research consultations; primary source and archival research; geographic information systems and data management; open access, publishing, and copyright consultations; Lewis Music Library; and information delivery and library access.

The Libraries also had a raffle for the incoming graduate students, where they got their raffle card stamped at five of the six library tables. Raffle prizes were a TechCASH card and a fleece blanket with the MIT libraries logo.
