The furry friends from Dog B.O.N.E.S. a non-profit therapy dog organization, were a big hit at Hayden Library last week. This week they return to campus to visit with students at Barker Library on Tuesday, December 20 at 2pm.

Sonorous currents: live electronic music by students, Dec.6

Come hear a performance of new music for live electronics with laptops, iPhones, circuits, and other sonological mechanisms in the Lewis Music Library from noon to 1:00 pm on Tuesday, December 6, 2011. Presentation on Research Data Management Services at Johns Hopkins

Please join us for a presentation by Sayeed Choudhury on the development of research data management services provided to the Johns Hopkins University research community by the Sheridan Libraries (http://dmp.data.jhu.edu/).  This presentation is being hosted by the MIT Libraries’ Research Data Management Team, which provides support for managing research data created at MIT (//libraries.mit.edu/data-management).

Bio: G. Sayeed Choudhury is the Associate Dean for Library Digital Programs and Hodson Director of the Digital Research and Curation Center at the Sheridan Libraries of Johns Hopkins University. He is also the Director of Operations for the Institute of Data Intensive Engineering and Science (IDIES) based at Johns Hopkins. He is the Principal Investigator for the Data Conservancy, one of the awards through NSF’s DataNet program. He has oversight for the digital library activities and services provided by the Sheridan Libraries at Johns Hopkins University.

Jay Keyser discusses “Mens et Mania: The MIT Nobody Knows”

Want to hear about the REAL MIT? Join us for an evening with Jay Keyser as he discusses his recent book Mens et Mania.

When: Wednesday, November 16, 6:00 PM

Samuel Jay Keyser is Professor Emeritus in MIT’s Department of Linguistics and Philosophy and Special Assistant to the Chancellor. Since arriving at MIT in 1977 he has held positions with the Department of Linguistics and Philosophy, the Center for Cognitive Science, the Provost, the Chancellor, and was the Housemaster at Senior House. In Mens et Mania Keyser shares experiences from his unique perspective and reflects on the culture and mystique of MIT.

Copies of Mens et Mania will be available for purchase and signing. Reception to follow.
