Changes to our BorrowDirect request form

Faster service, fewer emails

Stacks of books with yellow BorrowDirect labels on the covers.BorrowDirect is a service that allows MIT faculty, students, and staff to borrow materials that are not available at MIT from one of 13 premier library collections. We’re making a change to our BorrowDirect request form starting August 7 to provide a more seamless experience for our users:

  • Instead of selecting MIT from a drop-down menu and choosing a pickup location in the pop-up window, you will now be directed to a pre-populated form in ILLiad, our interlibrary borrowing system.
  • Requests that can be filled by BorrowDirect will automatically be sent to that service for faster fulfillment.
  • For any request that cannot be provided via BorrowDirect, our Interlibrary Borrowing staff will work on fulfilling it via our worldwide network of lending libraries. No extra steps are required from you.
  • You will receive fewer emails about each request – in most cases, just one, when the item is available to check out at a campus library location.

If you’ve never used ILLiad before, no worries – you can create an account the first time you make a request.

Please contact our Interlibrary Borrowing staff at ilb-lib@mit.edu with any questions.
