As part of the MIT Libraries’ approach to budget reductions, Barker Library will transition to an unstaffed location, with 24/7 study space and collections available by request. Due to staff attrition, the Libraries can no longer staff all of our service desk locations adequately, and this transition, originally planned for June, will now take effect after spring break.
As of Monday, March 30:
- Barker collections will be available by request, with several pickup and delivery options available.
- The 24/7 study space under the dome will remain available with MIT ID.
- Book stacks and all other spaces in Barker Library will be accessible to library staff only.
- Course reserves and materials on hold at Barker will be moved to Hayden; to request a different pickup location, contact us.
- Research support remains available virtually and in person.
Thank you for your understanding as we shift to new service models. Despite our reduced resources, we remain committed to supporting research, teaching, and learning at MIT.
