Check out the Libraries' 2017 orientation events

Giant Jenga at the 2016 Ice Cream SocialOrientation Week 2017 is just around the corner, and MIT’s new community members will be arriving soon. If you’re one of them, please join us for a walking tour, Ben & Jerry’s ice cream, giant Jenga, plus goodies and greetings galore at one of the following events. And be sure to check out our resources for new library users.

Undergraduate Students

  • Academic Expo
    What:     An expo of MIT’s academic departments and programs. The Libraries will be ready to answer your questions and offer information about our resources and services. Pick up handouts and goodies.
    When: Tuesday, August 29, 2-3:30pm
    Where: Johnson Ice Rink (W34). Look for the Libraries’ banner
  • Library Tours
    What:     Take a break from academic departments during Freshman Explorations and join us for a walking tour of the MIT Libraries.
    When: Thursday, August 31, tours start at 2:30 and 3pm
    Where: Meet in Lobby 7; ends outside Hayden Library for the ice cream social
  • Ice Cream Social
    What:     Eat tasty Ben & Jerry’s ice cream, play giant Jenga and corn hole, and chat with librarians!
    When:     Thursday, August 31, 3-5pm
    Where:     Lipchitz Courtyard (Building 14); rain location: hallway in front of Hayden Library (Building 14)

Graduate Students

  • New Graduate Student Welcome Reception
    What: A wine and cheese party under MIT’s historic dome where new graduate students can meet and mingle with one another and library staff.
    When: Friday, September 1, 5-7pm
    Where: The Barker Library Reading Room (Building 10, 5th floor)
  • Graduate Student Resource Fair
    What: A resource fair where you can meet the other departments and academic support units. The Libraries will be ready to answer your questions and offer information about our resources and services. Pick up handouts and goodies.
    When: Tuesday, September 5, 11am–2pm
    Where: Johnson Ice Rink (W34). Look for the Libraries’ banner

MIT Community

  • Parent Orientation Library Tours
    What:     Take a walking tour of the MIT Libraries designed especially for parents of incoming students.
    When: Monday, August 28, tours start at 3 and 4pm
    Where: Meet in Lobby 7; ends outside Hayden Library
