MIT Open Scholarship: New Name for Newly Upgraded DSpace@MIT

MIT Open ScholarshipScreenshot of an MIT Open Scholarship results page is a completely revamped and significantly upgraded version of MIT’s institutional repository, also known as DSpace@MIT. For more than two decades, DSpace@MIT has served as the premier digital home for the Institute’s research, housing theses, working papers, technical reports, published articles, and more.

The new platform introduces a modernized, mobile-friendly user interface, improved search functionalities, and better capacity to show connections between researchers, organizations, and diverse scholarly outputs. Its new name reflects a broader commitment to the open sharing of knowledge, one that captures the true mission of the repository.

“MIT Open Scholarship ensures that the knowledge generated at MIT remains freely accessible to all, ” says Tina Pappas, Head of Discovery and Engagement Platforms. “This upgrade is more than a technical migration; it is a reaffirmation of the Institute’s enduring commitment to open science, transparent research, and global impact.”

Key benefits of the MIT Open Scholarship upgrade include:

  • Enhanced performance, including better handling of bots traffic to prevent service disruptions
  • Streamlined submission workflows for MIT researchers
  • New features to better highlight publications by specific authors and MIT departments, labs, centers, and institutes.

MIT Open Scholarship is one of several exciting projects underway this summer, all aimed at making it easier to discover and access collections and services, including:

  • Articles, Books, and More (Search Our Collections): We are modernizing the library catalog experience to provide clearer tools for refining, filtering, and exploring results.
  • Digital Collections (Dome) upgrade: Enhancements to the digital collections repository will provide an easier way to explore photographs, archival materials, and other unique collections.
  • Search MIT Libraries (Unified Search): A new integrated search experience designed to make it easier to discover MIT Libraries resources from across multiple systems in one place.
  • MIT Libraries homepage redesign: A redesigned homepage will make it easier to start your research and quickly access search tools, guides, and services.
