Whether you’re a taking a short vacation, going on a field trip, or doing some field work, you may want check out the Travel Collection on the 2nd floor of the Hayden Library in the Browsery area.
You’ll find 300 travel guides from publishers such as Lonely Planet, APA Insight Guide, Rough Guide, Footrpint, Fodor’s, Time Out, Dorling Kindersley Eyewitness Travel Guides, Moon Handbooks, and Bradt Travel Guides. The guides are regularly updated, though some classic titles have been retained. (For example, some of the older Lonely Planet guides have more detail than the revised editions). Specialized publishers are also represented, including Tuttle for Japan and Asia, and Explorer’s Guides for the US.
The goal of the collection is to provide background information, as well as practical tips. There are some specialized guides on hiking, language tips, hostels, national parks, and cycling. There’s even the Not For Tourists Guide for Boston and one for New York.
