Changes to Boston Library Consortium access

Recent membership updates for MIT community

As we announced in January, the MIT Libraries is transitioning its relationship with the Boston Library Consortium (BLC) to an affiliate membership, phasing out components of the current BLC service.  There are some key updates for the MIT community regarding BLC access through the end of May 2016:

  • We are no longer issuing new BLC membership cards to the MIT Community
  • Active MIT BLC membership cards will expire May 31
  • All materials borrowed from a BLC library must be returned to that library by May 31

Our transition away from BLC requesting will not limit access to materials. We will maintain our membership with the Ivies Plus BorrowDirect program, and BorrowDirect requesting will remain available in MIT’s WorldCat.  If an item is not available through BorrowDirect, you will be able to request it through via our Interlibrary Borrowing service, also available via MIT’s WorldCat.
