Graduate Student Council Approves Resolution on Scientific Publishing and MIT Libraries

Grad Student Council logoOn March 4, 2026, the General Council of the MIT Graduate Student Council (GSC) approved a Resolution on Scientific Publishing and MIT Libraries. In it, the GSC affirms its support for the MIT Framework for Publisher Contracts, urges MIT faculty to follow MIT Faculty Open Access Policy, calls upon MIT students and scholars to sign the MIT Authors’ opt-in Open Access License, and encourages new methods of communicating and evaluating scientific research:

GSC calls for the adoption of preprints and other innovative scholar communication methods to reshape the current publication system, accelerate the communication of scientific discoveries, and restore healthy incentives in biomedical research;
