Recently the Wunsch Conservation Lab staff received this puzzle: a game of musical chance by W.A. Mozart in which new compositions are created by rolling dice. The musical score consists of 13 separate sheets containing two tables and 176 bars of music to be used in playing the game. The challenge for Lab staff was to enclose the score so that it could be shelved and circulated without the pieces falling out. Here’s how they did it:

- The musical score consists of 13 separate sheets containing two tables and 176 bars of music to be used in playing the game.
- Preservation Associate Kate Beattie decided to modify a prefabricated four-flap portfolio. First she constructed pockets for the “dice” using polyester sheets and an ultrasonic welder.
- Next she made a pocket for the booklet and charts.
- A most satisfying result!
