MIT's WorldCat
About this beta
MIT's WorldCat is an experimental alternative interface to the MIT Libraries Barton catalog. Give it a try and send us your feedback!
Things to remember:
1. This is NOT a complete catalog of our holdings, instead it contains about 90% of what's in the Barton catalog. For a comprehensive search, use the Barton catalog.
2. Search results are from library catalogs around the world, with MIT's holdings ranked first in the list, followed by holdings from Boston Library Consortium libraries, and finally, other more distant libraries. If you're a member of the MIT community and you find items outside of MIT that you want to borrow, you can request them through our Interlibrary Borrowing service.
3. While the results show some journal articles, they represent only a very small amount of our journal collection. Search for articles and find a more complete list of journals and databases owned by MIT in Vera Multi-Search.

Features
MIT's WorldCat provides many new features, and we'd like your feedback on how useful these features are to you.
1. Narrowing by facets
On the results screen you may narrow by facets such as author, format, year, content, audience, language, or topic.
For example, if you search for "global warming," you may wish to narrow the large number of results to "business & management" or "geography & earth sciences" or "engineering & technology" in order to get different kinds of topical results.

2. Ratings, reviews, user-created book lists
If you sign up for a free WorldCat account, (this is separate from the Barton "your account" feature for now), you may submit reviews and ratings, create and publish public or private lists, and search for lists created by other users on the site. Lists can be exported and have RSS feeds, so you can get updates when other users update their lists.

3. See more about books, both inside and out
Book covers will be displayed, for many items. Many books also link to Google Books, so that you can see the inside of the book. Depending on the book, you'll either see the full contents or a preview version.
