{"id":4775,"date":"2024-09-30T13:00:05","date_gmt":"2024-09-30T13:00:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/libraries.mit.edu\/scholarly\/?p=4775"},"modified":"2024-10-15T15:25:01","modified_gmt":"2024-10-15T15:25:01","slug":"spotlight-choosing-a-journal-for-your-research","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/libraries.mit.edu\/scholarly\/2024\/spotlight-choosing-a-journal-for-your-research\/","title":{"rendered":"Spotlight: Choosing a journal for your research"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>From <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eifl.net\/\">Electronic Information for Libraries<\/a> (EIFL): <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eifl.net\/resources\/eifl-guide-and-checklist-researchers-and-librarians-choosing-journal-your-your-research\">A new guide<\/a> with tips for researchers on how to choose a journal for their research.<\/p>\n<p>Publishing choices are often influenced by researchers\u2019 desire to ensure timely and wide dissemination of their research results while at the same time meeting requirements set by their institutions and\/or research funders, as well as requirements that researchers need to meet for research evaluation, assessment and promotion.<\/p>\n<p>General advice from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eifl.net\/choosing-journal-your-research-checklist-researchers-and-librarians\">EIFL guide<\/a>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Indexation in databases such as the Web of Science or Scopus isn\u2019t a warranty of quality.<\/li>\n<li>If you are required by your institution or funder to publish in a journal included in a particular index or list, select a journal from the index\/list and analyze it against this checklist.<\/li>\n<li>Don\u2019t respond to unsolicited invitations to publish.<\/li>\n<li>Check the information provided on the journal\u2019s\/publisher\u2019s website.<\/li>\n<li>If you\u2019re not 100% sure the journal is legitimate and publishes scholarly content of good quality, don\u2019t submit your manuscript there.<\/li>\n<li>If you\u2019re looking for an open access journal to publish your research in, use the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/doaj.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ)<\/a>\u00a0as a starting point.<\/li>\n<li>You don&#8217;t have to pay to publish as there are many journals that don&#8217;t charge publication fees or there might be free publishing agreements negotiated for you.<\/li>\n<li>Search the Internet to see if the journal is mentioned in a negative context.<\/li>\n<li>Ask your librarian for help and advice!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>From Electronic Information for Libraries (EIFL): A new guide with tips for researchers on how to choose a journal for their research.
