The agreements are active as of the date the page was last updated. Questions? <a href=\"https:\/\/libanswers.mit.edu\/ask-scholarly-communications\">Contact us<\/a><\/p>\n<p>December 2025 update: Due to recent budget cuts in the Libraries and Springer\u2019s unreasonable pricing of OA publishing, starting January 1, 2026, we no longer have an agreement covering OA publishing charges for Springer &amp; Palgrave journal articles.<\/p>\n<section class=\"expandable\">\n<h3><a href=\"#\">AIP Publishing<\/a><\/h3>\n<div class=\"content\">\n<p>MIT Libraries signed a three-year agreement (through December 2028) with AIP Publishing covering article processing charges for all articles with MIT corresponding authors. Authors must be currently affiliated with MIT to be eligible.<\/p>\n<p>Workflow for corresponding authors in journals from AIP Publishing: When you submit an article, choose MIT as the institution name; then choose the option that says, &#8220;Open Access as part of an Institutional agreement.&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/publishing.aip.org\/resources\/researchers\/open-science\/read-and-publish\/authors\/\">More information on the AIP site<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<section class=\"expandable\">\n<h3><a href=\"#\">Association for Computing Machinery<\/a><\/h3>\n<div class=\"content\">\n<p>The MIT Libraries has an <a href=\"http:\/\/news.mit.edu\/2020\/mit-framework-publisher-contracts-yields-new-open-access-model-0224\">open access agreement<\/a> with ACM (through December 2028) that allows MIT authors to make ACM articles freely available at no cost to them. Authors must be currently affiliated with MIT to be eligible.<\/p>\n<p>Under the agreement, ACM will also automatically deposit the manuscripts of all MIT co-authored articles into MIT\u2019s institutional repository, DSpace. And the agreement includes rights for computational (text or data mining) access to the ACM Digital Library. <a href=\"https:\/\/libraries.acm.org\/subscriptions-access\/acmopen\">More information on the ACM site<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<section class=\"expandable\">\n<h3><a href=\"#\">Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory Press<\/a><\/h3>\n<div class=\"content\">\n<p>MIT Libraries\u2019 agreement (through December 2027) with Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory Press gives MIT corresponding authors free open access in these journals: Genes &amp; Development, Genome Research, Learning &amp; Memory, RNA. Authors can choose a CC-BY or CC-BY-NC license. The publisher will offer corresponding authors the OA option.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<section class=\"expandable\">\n<h3><a href=\"#\">Electrochemical Society<\/a><\/h3>\n<div class=\"content\">\n<p>MIT Libraries\u2019 subscription to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.electrochem.org\/publications\/oa\"> ECS Plus<\/a> provides current MIT authors with free, unlimited credits to publish articles open access.<\/p>\n<p>To take advantage of this, choose Open Access in the submission process:<\/p>\n<p>If authors wish to have their paper published OA if accepted, they should request Open Access Publication, select the desired CC license (ECS offers CC-BY and CC-BY-NC-ND), and check the box for affiliation with an ECS Plus subscriber institution. If the paper is accepted, there will be no invoice; the system will confirm the affiliation and waive the article processing charge.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.electrochem.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/ECS-Plus.pdf\">More information on publishing OA with ECS Plus<\/a> (PDF from ECS)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<section class=\"expandable\">\n<h3><a href=\"#\">eLife<\/a><\/h3>\n<div class=\"content\">\n<p>MIT Libraries support of the journal <a href=\"https:\/\/elifesciences.org\/\"> eLife<\/a> provides current MIT authors with free, unlimited publishing (through April 2027).<\/p>\n<p>To take advantage of this, enter MIT as your institution on the submission page. Once there appears a green checkmark next to &#8220;Edit Funder\/Institution,&#8221; you will see a note on the publication fee page that the fee is covered by a deal. The agreement includes 55 OA articles for 2026.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<section class=\"expandable\">\n<h3><a href=\"#\">Wiley<\/a><\/h3>\n<div class=\"content\">\n<p>MIT Libraries has a one-year agreement (to December 2026) that allows MIT corresponding authors publishing in Wiley fully OA or hybrid journals to make articles open access at no cost to them. Authors must be currently affiliated with MIT to be eligible.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Publisher discounts\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The discounts below are active as of the date the page was last updated.<\/p>\n<section class=\"expandable\">\n<h3><a href=\"#\">American Chemical Society<\/a><\/h3>\n<div class=\"content\">\n<p>MIT Libraries subscribe to &#8220;ACS All Publications,&#8221; which means ACS members who are currently affiliated with MIT get a $250-$750 discount on ACS &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/pubs.acs.org\/page\/4authors\/authorchoice\/index.html\">AuthorChoice<\/a>.&#8221; AuthorChoice makes the final published version of articles open access immediately or after 12 months. <a href=\"https:\/\/acsopenscience.org\/open-access\/pricing\/\">More information<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<section class=\"expandable\">\n<h3><a href=\"#\">BioMed Central<\/a><\/h3>\n<div class=\"content\">MIT Libraries\u2019 membership provides current MIT authors with a 15% discount on article processing fees for BMC journals and SpringerOpen journals. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biomedcentral.com\/about\/institutional-support\/membership\/1600010533\">More information<\/a><\/div>\n<\/section>\n<section class=\"expandable\">\n<h3><a href=\"#\">Frontiers<\/a><\/h3>\n<div class=\"content\">\n<p>MIT Libraries\u2019 membership provides currently affiliated MIT authors with a 15% discount on article processing fees for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.frontiersin.org\/\">Frontiers<\/a> journals.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<section class=\"expandable\">\n<h3><a href=\"#\">MDPI<\/a><\/h3>\n<div class=\"content\">MIT Libraries is an institutional member of MDPI. Our membership provides current MIT authors with a 10% discount on article processing charges for MDPI journals, and discounts on book publishing charges. MDPI publishes open access journals and books in the sciences.<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<section class=\"expandable\">\n<h3><a href=\"#\">Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS)<\/a><\/h3>\n<div class=\"content\">MIT Libraries\u2019 site license provides current MIT authors with a discount on the optional open access processing fees. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pnas.org\/authors\/fees-and-licenses\">More information on the PNAS site<\/a><\/div>\n<\/section>\n<section class=\"expandable\">\n<h3><a href=\"#\">Royal Society<\/a><\/h3>\n<div class=\"content\">MIT Libraries&#8217; membership supports Royal Society&#8217;s Subscribe to Open program, which in 2026 makes <a href=\"https:\/\/royalsociety.org\/journals\/librarians\/purchasing\/subscribe-to-open\/\">eight subscription journals fully OA<\/a> with no article processing charges for authors. APCs will still be charged for publishing in Open Science and Open Biology, and current MIT authors get a 25% discount.<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<div>\n<section class=\"expandable\">\n<h3><a href=\"#\">Springer Nature<\/a><\/h3>\n<div class=\"content\">\n<p>December 2025 update: Due to recent budget cuts in the Libraries and Springer\u2019s unreasonable pricing of OA publishing, starting January 1, 2026, we no longer have an agreement covering OA publishing charges for Springer &amp; Palgrave journal articles.<\/p>\n<p>However: MIT Libraries has an agreement that provides current MIT authors with a 15% discount on article processing charges for <a href=\"https:\/\/resource-cms.springernature.com\/springer-cms\/rest\/v1\/content\/27820860\/data\/v3\">fully open access journals listed on this page<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<section class=\"expandable\"><\/section>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Funds from MIT Libraries<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>July 2025 update: <\/strong>Due to budget cuts in the Libraries, the open access articles fund is suspended for FY26 (starting July 1, 2025), and support for OA monographs has been reduced.
