{"id":39892,"date":"2025-04-14T08:55:54","date_gmt":"2025-04-14T12:55:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/libraries.mit.edu\/news\/?p=39892"},"modified":"2025-06-26T16:02:17","modified_gmt":"2025-06-26T20:02:17","slug":"libraries-funds-help-make-50-scholarly-books-openly-available","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/libraries.mit.edu\/news\/libraries-funds-help-make-50-scholarly-books-openly-available\/39892\/","title":{"rendered":"Libraries&#8217; funds help make 50 scholarly books openly available"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/libraries.mit.edu\/news\/libraries-funds-support\/33561\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Since 2022<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, the MIT Libraries has supported MIT authors in making their scholarly monographs and other books open access (OA) to readers around the world.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">We\u2019ve funded about 50 books written <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">by MIT researchers across 20 departments and all five schools on campus. Nearly 70 percent are published by nonprofit university presses. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/libraries.mit.edu\/news\/open-monographs-fund-is-a-success-in-its-first-year\/38305\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">We shared the first batch of books<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> made OA with Libraries funds a couple of years ago.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Below is a list of the latest OA books, which range from a cognitive science textbook to a story of Armenians in post-genocide Turkey to a \u201cterrific book about a famous economic disaster\u201d during the California energy crisis in the early 2000s.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The works are all freely available to read, download, and share under Creative Commons licenses.
