We\u2019re especially looking forward to welcoming you to the newly renovated <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/libraries.mit.edu\/future-spaces\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Hayden Library and Building 14 Courtyard<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Please note: While access to campus buildings remains restricted to members of the MIT community who are in Covid Pass and escorted visitors, the Libraries will be open to Covid Pass users only, with the exception of the Distinctive Collections Reading Room (see below). Visit <\/span><\/i><a href=\"https:\/\/now.mit.edu\/policies\/\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">MIT Now<\/span><\/i><\/a><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> for the latest information on current Institute policies, including masking requirements.\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><b>Accessing library spaces<br \/>\n<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">All library locations will reopen to Covid Pass users beginning in late August:<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>August 23: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">All library locations open; see <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/libraries.mit.edu\/hours\/?d=2021-8-23\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">hours<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>September 4-6:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> Library locations will be closed for the Labor Day holiday; <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/libraries.mit.edu\/study\/24x7\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">24-hour study space<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> remains available.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>September 7:<\/b> <a href=\"https:\/\/libraries.mit.edu\/hours\/?d=2021-9-7\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Fall hours<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> begin\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/libraries.mit.edu\/distinctive-collections\/visit-us\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Distinctive Collections Reading Room<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> will be open <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/mit.aeon.atlas-sys.com\/logon\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">by appointment<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> only, Monday through Thursday, 10am to 4pm. We are aiming for non-MIT users to visit the reading room, following Institute policies for visitors which will include the requirements that visitors register, make an appointment, and be escorted through MIT buildings by staff.\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/libraries.mit.edu\/distinctive-collections\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Please check back for updates<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. Virtual reference consultations will continue to be encouraged as well. Requests from the MIT community will be prioritized.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Borrowing and requesting materials<br \/>\n<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Search Our Collections has launched! We encourage you to try our new search platform and discover some of its <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/libraries.mit.edu\/research-support\/new-library-platform\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">new features<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. You can also browse our collections in person &#8212; the stacks will be open in all locations. Please note the following service updates:<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Shipping of materials to off-campus addresses will be discontinued August 20 at 5pm. Request materials for pick up at the library location of your choice.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Office delivery will continue for MIT faculty, postdocs, and academic\/research staff.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Books from our collections that have been available electronically through emergency temporary access from HathiTrust and Internet Archive will be available for physical lending only. You can still request digital copies of these titles through <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/libraries.mit.edu\/suggest-purchase\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Suggest a Purchase<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">All e-books, online journals, databases, and other streaming\/electronic materials remain available as usual (see <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/libraries.mit.edu\/research-support\/connect\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">how to authenticate<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> to online resources). You can also request PDFs of 50 pages or less from print books, journals, and serials through our <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/libguides.mit.edu\/scan-deliver\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Scan and Deliver<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> service, or <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/libraries.mit.edu\/suggest-purchase\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">suggest a purchase<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> in digital or physical formats.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Borrowing from other libraries<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Request materials from <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/libraries.mit.edu\/borrow\/borrowdirect\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">BorrowDirect libraries<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> for pick up at the MIT Libraries location of your choice.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Request books, book chapters, and articles through <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/libraries.mit.edu\/docs\/ilb\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">interlibrary borrowing<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Please check Harvard Library\u2019s current policy for <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/library.harvard.edu\/libraries\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">visiting library locations<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. MIT users can always request Harvard materials via <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/libraries.mit.edu\/borrow-direct\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">BorrowDirect<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> for delivery to MIT.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Course reserves<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Libraries will offer a full <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/libraries.mit.edu\/borrow\/course-reserves\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">course reserves service<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> for the fall. The service includes access to article and chapter scans through our <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/libguides.mit.edu\/scan-deliver\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Scan &amp; Deliver<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> service, which instructors may post to their Canvas site for student use, as well as access to numerous e-books and databases.
