{"id":9,"date":"2013-04-11T20:42:27","date_gmt":"2013-04-11T20:42:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/libraries.mit.edu\/music-oral-history\/?page_id=9"},"modified":"2023-05-05T14:18:40","modified_gmt":"2023-05-05T14:18:40","slug":"terms-of-use","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/libraries.mit.edu\/music-oral-history\/terms-of-use\/","title":{"rendered":"Terms of use"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Creative Commons Licensing and the Music at MIT Oral History Collection<\/h2>\n<p>The Music at MIT Oral History Collection website carries the license\u00a0<em>\u201cCreative Commons<\/em><i>\u00a0<\/i><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/creativecommons.org\/licenses\/by-nc\/3.0\/\">Attribution-NonCommercial License (CC BY-NC<\/a>)\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3>What does the Creative Commons license mean?<\/h3>\n<p>The Creative Commons license we chose for this site is the \u201c<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/creativecommons.org\/licenses\/by-nc\/3.0\/\">Attribution-NonCommercial<\/a>\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0license.<\/p>\n<p>This license allows anyone to copy, adapt, share or remix the content for their own purposes, as long as they attribute the source and do not use the content for commercial purposes.<\/p>\n<p><b>Does the Creative Commons license apply to everything at the site?<\/b><\/p>\n<p>No. The<em> Attribution-NonCommercial CC license does not apply if a special copyright statement appears with an item.<\/em>\u00a0Such exceptions are indicated with the phrase \u201call rights reserved,\u201d which means that the Creative Commons License does not apply to the item.<\/p>\n<h3><b>Do I need to request permission to use or share the works at the site?<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>The Creative Commons Attribution NonCommercial license allows wide reuse (including copying, sharing, and adapting the works) without requesting permission, as long as your use is for noncommercial purposes. Permission is required for items labeled \u201call rights reserved,\u201d unless\u00a0<a href=\"\/\/libraries.mit.edu\/scholarly\/publishing\/copyright-information-for-mit-faculty\/#fair\">fair use<\/a>\u00a0or another exception under copyright law applies.<\/p>\n<h3>Why are we using a Creative Commons license?<\/h3>\n<p>We want to promote the widest possible use and sharing of the content made available in the Music at MIT Oral History Collection.<\/p>\n<p>It takes a little more time and a little more thought to manage a site that is licensed under CC.
