Place orders for digital copies of MIT Libraries Distinctive Collections materials through the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/mit.aeon.atlas-sys.com\/\">Distinctive Collections Request System<\/a>. For more information regarding placing orders using this system please visit,\u00a0<a href=\"\/distinctive-collections\/requesting-materials\/\">requesting materials<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Copyright restrictions may apply to certain materials. For information regarding publication and permissions relating to Distinctive Collections materials, please visit the MIT Libraries&#8217; <a href=\"\/about\/policies\/copyright-permissions-policy\/\">Copyright Permissions Policy<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Requests for theses, technical reports, and working papers typically take 2-3 weeks to complete. All other imaging requests, including AV orders, take 6-8 weeks to complete. Timelines are measured from order submittal.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Services offered<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Digital imaging and photography (including color balancing and processing)<\/li>\n<li>Special procedures for scanning fragile artifacts<\/li>\n<li>Optical character recognition (OCR)<\/li>\n<li>AV materials are sent to a trusted vendor.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>File standards\u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Available digital file formats include TIFF, PDF or JPEG for paper materials and include MP3 for audio and MP4 for video for AV materials.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Items larger than 5 x 7 \u2014 400 ppi<\/li>\n<li>Photos and items smaller than 5 x 7 \u2014 600 ppi<\/li>\n<li>Visual materials (negatives\/slides) \u2014 2000 \u2013 3000 ppi<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Should you require formats outside of our standard practices, please detail those specifications in the \u201cAdditional Information\u201d field of your request.<\/p>\n<h4>MIT Theses<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Many MIT theses are available online from <a href=\"https:\/\/libraries.mit.edu\/mit-theses\">MIT\u2019s DSpace thesis collection<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>You can also search for\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/libraries.mit.edu\/search-mit-theses\">MIT Theses in Search Our Collections<\/a>, which will link to the full-text when available.<\/li>\n<li>If full-text isn\u2019t available, you can request a digital copy directly from the item record, which will connect to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/mit.aeon.atlas-sys.com\/\">Distinctive Collections Request System<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>MIT technical reports and working papers<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Some\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/libguides.mit.edu\/c.php?g=176306&amp;p=1159542\">MIT technical reports<\/a>\u00a0and working papers are available online in <a href=\"http:\/\/dspace.mit.edu\">DSpace<\/a> or on departmental websites.
