See the guides to informed consent from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ukdataservice.ac.uk\/manage-data\/legal-ethical\/consent-data-sharing.aspx\">U.K. Data Archive<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.icpsr.umich.edu\/icpsrweb\/content\/datamanagement\/confidentiality\/conf-language.html\">ICPSR<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Maintaining confidentiality: Data made publicly available should not contain information that could risk the confidentiality of their participants.\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.icpsr.umich.edu\/icpsrweb\/content\/datamanagement\/confidentiality\/\">ICSPR\u2019s guide to confidentiality<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.povertyactionlab.org\/sites\/default\/files\/resources\/J-PAL-guide-to-deidentifying-data.pdf\">J-PAL Guide to De-identifying Data<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Other useful tips:\n<ul>\n<li>Some archives, such as the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.icpsr.umich.edu\/\">ICPSR<\/a>, will <a href=\"http:\/\/www.icpsr.umich.edu\/icpsrweb\/content\/datamanagement\/confidentiality\/\">review your data for the presence of confidential information<\/a>\u00a0and provide infrastructure for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.icpsr.umich.edu\/icpsrweb\/content\/ICPSR\/access\/restricted\/index.html\">restricted access to sensitive data<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Check your discipline\u2019s academy or association for more resources. The Online Ethics Center for Engineering and Science provides <a href=\"https:\/\/onlineethics.org\/cases\/resources-research-ethics-education\/topics-data-management\">a guide on responsible data management<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><a id=\"IP\"><\/a>Intellectual Property<\/h2>\n<p>Sharing data that you have produced or collected yourself:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>While factual data is generally not copyrightable, particular expressions of data may be copyrighted or licensed.\u00a0 Software, code, and other contextual information such as readME files or data documentation generally are copyrightable.\u00a0 We encourage you to speak with <a href=\"https:\/\/tlo.mit.edu\/contact-us?inquiring_about=General%20Inquiry#no-back\" data-ogsc=\"\" data-outlook-id=\"e692ce04-1061-4875-ae3b-5bbd7d2d651b\">MIT\u2019s Technology and Licensing Office<\/a> about research objects you have created and <a href=\"https:\/\/libanswers.mit.edu\/ask-scholarly-communications\" data-ogsc=\"\" data-outlook-id=\"7f719229-399a-4408-929e-15e6dba37040\">Ask Scholarly Communications<\/a> regarding articles, monographs, and similar.<\/li>\n<li>Promote sharing and unlimited use of your data by making it available under an <a href=\"http:\/\/opendatacommons.org\/\">Open Data Commons<\/a> or\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/creativecommons.org\/licenses\/\">Creative Commons license<\/a>.
