Photo: Arnaldo Vescovo, courtesy of the American Research Center in Egypt<\/p><\/div>\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/archnet.org\/collections\/1331\">new Archnet exhibition<\/a> highlights the interior of the Church of Saints Bishai and Bigol in the Sohag Province of Egypt. \u00a0Perhaps better known as the <a href=\"https:\/\/archnet.org\/sites\/17025\">Church of the Red Monastery<\/a> because of the red brick walls used in the construction of the monastery,\u00a0the church was established in the 4th c.\u00a0as a center of the large monastic community \u00a0in Upper Egypt. It is remarkable for the vividly colored\u00a0paintings covering about eighty percent of the\u00a0the interior.<\/p>\n<p>The photographs in this exhibition show the interior after a decade-long restoration effort of the <a href=\"https:\/\/archnet.org\/authorities\/1504\">American Research Center in Egypt<\/a>.
