{"id":438,"date":"2016-08-11T19:42:53","date_gmt":"2016-08-11T19:42:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/libraries-test.mit.edu\/akdc\/?p=438"},"modified":"2023-05-24T15:23:35","modified_gmt":"2023-05-24T15:23:35","slug":"city-records-and-other-archnet-enhancements","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/libraries.mit.edu\/akdc\/2016\/08\/11\/city-records-and-other-archnet-enhancements\/","title":{"rendered":"City records and other Archnet enhancements"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_22669\" style=\"width: 359px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"\/app\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2016\/08\/Cairo-record.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-22669\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-22669\" class=\" wp-image-22669\" src=\"\/app\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2016\/08\/Cairo-record.jpg\" alt=\"The record for Cairo \" width=\"349\" height=\"211\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-22669\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em>The record for Cairo<\/em><\/p><\/div>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/archnet.org\">Archnet<\/a> has recently implemented city authorities\u00a0to\u00a0help users find resources related to specific cities, even if they search using variant spellings, alternate or vernacular names, abbreviations, or even names that are no longer used.<\/p>\n<p>For example, users will be able to find records associated\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/archnet.org\/collections\/960\/authorities\/5328\">with Cairo<\/a>\u00a0even if they search on\u00a0an\u00a0Arabic transliteration of the name;\u00a0\u00a0records associated with\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/archnet.org\/collections\/960\/authorities\/3573\">Mumbai<\/a> even if they search on the\u00a0former name of Bombay; and\u00a0records relating to\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/archnet.org\/collections\/960\/authorities\/3657\">Fez<\/a>\u00a0even if they search using the Francophone spelling of F\u00e8s. Names in Arabic or other non-Latinate scripts are also included and will display to the user, though it is not yet possible to search using them.<\/p>\n<p>The cities that have been published so far are gathered into a\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/archnet.org\/collections\/960\/\">City Records<\/a> collection.
