But on August 4 the city around the port was rocked by a massive explosion unrelated to armed conflict. The explosion caused the death of hundreds and injuring thousands more.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>It also caused billions in property damage, leaving approximately 3000,000 homeless.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Lebanese architect and scholar <a href=\"http:\/\/archnet.org\/authorities\/9256\">Ali Khodr<\/a> is developing a survey on the Built Heritage of Lebanon for Archnet. While not complete, we are making the completed <a href=\"http:\/\/archnet.org\/collections\/1838\">portion of the Beirut survey<\/a> available now to celebrate the city and its rich heritage.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><a href=\"http:\/\/archnet.org\/collections\/960\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-1978 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/libraries.mit.edu\/app\/uploads\/sites\/13\/2020\/10\/Urban-October-300x146.jpg\" alt=\"Logos for Archnet and Urban October events\" width=\"300\" height=\"146\" \/><\/a>The October update of Archnet also highlights <a href=\"https:\/\/urbanoctober.unhabitat.org\">Urban October<\/a>, a month designated by the UN to raise awareness, promote participation, generate knowledge and engage the international community in the promotion of \u201cBetter Urban Futures.\u201d The month begins on the first Monday of October, 5<sup>th<\/sup> of October in 2020, with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/en\/observances\/habitat-day\">World Habitat Day<\/a>, and it ends on the 31<sup>st<\/sup> with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/en\/observances\/cities-day\">World Cities Day<\/a>.
