Michael Toler, Interim Program head, noted that the award is especially meaningful given the caliber of the three other projects shortlisted for the award: the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.arab-architecture.org\/\">Arab Center for Architecture<\/a> (Beirut), <a href=\"http:\/\/www.michaelrakowitz.com\/\">Michael Rakowitz<\/a> (New York) and <a href=\"https:\/\/ammandesignweek.com\/about\/our-team\">Rana Beiruti<\/a> (Amman). &#8220;It is a great honor to even be nominated alongside such prestigious organizations and individuals,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Toler added that the AKDC@MIT is a collaborative endeavor.\u00a0 &#8220;We are being recognized for the efforts of all <a href=\"https:\/\/libraries.mit.edu\/akdc\/services-and-staff\/\">our staff<\/a>, past and present, as well at the support of the <a href=\"http:\/\/web.mit.edu\/akpia\/www\/\">Aga Khan Program for Islamic Architecture<\/a> at MIT and Harvard, the <a href=\"https:\/\/libraries.mit.edu\/\">MIT Libraries<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.akdn.org\/our-agencies\/aga-khan-trust-culture\">Aga Khan Trust for Culture<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/sap.mit.edu\/\">School of Architecture + Planning<\/a> at MIT, and all of our donors, contributors and partners.\u00a0 Most importantly,&#8221; he added, &#8220;we are being acknowledged for what was accomplished under he leadership of founding Program Head, Sharon C. Smith.&#8221;\u00a0\u00a0The Mohamed Makiya Prize &#8220;is an annual prize open to both individuals and organizations who promoted, encouraged, campaigned or influenced, directly or indirectly, the advancement of architecture and the built environment in the Middle East between 2015 and 2017.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tamayouz-award.com\/news\/aga-khan-documentation-center-at-mit-win-the-mohamed-makiya-prize-for-architecture\"> the announcement<\/a>\u00a0the founder of the Tamayouz Excellence Award, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tamayouz-award.com\/people.html\">Ahmed Al-Mallak<\/a> states,\u00a0\u201cOur warmest congratulations to the Aga Khan Documentation Center at MIT and the three finalists, it was a pleasure to see the impact of their works, directly and indirectly, highlighting and promoting architecture, public spaces and the built environment.
