Explosive welding was developed as a solution to this problem, allowing such welded pairings as titanium with steel, and copper with steel. As they state in the preface to <em>Explosive <\/em><em>Working of Metals<\/em>, each author wrote the section of the book with which he was most familiar: Reinhart\u2019s portion is on the \u201cphysical basis of explosive metal working\u201d while Pearson covers \u201cengineering fundamentals and practices of explosive metal working.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This book was once at the forefront of explosive metalworking research. The preface notes that \u201ca treatise of this type, being the first in this field, will be especially useful to aircraft and missiles producers \u2026 as well as the thousands of small and large companies supplying parts to these major industries.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>We know that at least one major company found the book <a href=\"https:\/\/libraries.mit.edu\/150books\/2011\/04\/19\/1963\/1963-title\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-1787 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/libraries.mit.edu\/app\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2011\/04\/1963-title-194x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"194\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/libraries.mit.edu\/app\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2011\/04\/1963-title-194x300.jpg 194w, https:\/\/libraries.mit.edu\/app\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2011\/04\/1963-title-663x1024.jpg 663w, https:\/\/libraries.mit.edu\/app\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2011\/04\/1963-title-768x1186.jpg 768w, https:\/\/libraries.mit.edu\/app\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2011\/04\/1963-title-624x964.jpg 624w, https:\/\/libraries.mit.edu\/app\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2011\/04\/1963-title.jpg 773w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 194px) 100vw, 194px\" \/><\/a>useful enough to be worth purchasing: ownership stamps at the front of MIT\u2019s copy indicate that it was originally in the Advanced Research Department of the E.G. &amp; G. Library in Bedford, Mass.<\/p>\n<p>E.G. &amp; G.
