Locating Items in the MIT Libraries

Books are arranged by call number in all of the MIT Libraries. How to use the Library of Congress Call Numbers.

Use our BookPage retrieval service to have 4-week loan items ready for pick-up in 1 business day if on the premises, within 2 business days if from another campus library.

Journals will either be shelved by call number (Humanities, Science) or alphabetically by title (Barker Engineering, Dewey, Rotch, Aeronautics and Astronautics, Lewis Music, and Lindgren).

PLEASE NOTE: Journal call numbers are different from book call numbers: after the initial letter(s) there are no numbers. An example of a journal call number: T.S34
