Barton Basics
A self-help guide to the MIT Libraries catalog
Searching for Videos, Films, or DVDs

Use the Advanced Search in Barton to search for video recordings including videocasettes, films and DVDs. Limit the format of items retrieved.

  • Click Search by Physical Format.

  • Select the video format you want from the list or choose All Video Recordings. You will be searching only items in that format until you return to the full catalog or choose another format.

 

Tip: To see whether you are searching a specific format or the full catalog, look above your search boxes.

 

Do you know the title of the film or video you are looking for?

  • From the Advanced Search screen, click Search by Physical Format.
  • Select the video format you want.
  • Click Browse an Alphabetical List.

  • Enter the title of the film or video in the search box.

Note: Leave off any initial articles (the, a, le etc.) when entering your title.

  • Select your title from the alphabetical list.

 

Do you know the director, an actor or screenwriter?

  • From the Advanced Search screen, click Search by Physical Format.
  • Select the video format you want.
  • Search their names using the Keyword Anywhere search.
