Both
35mm and lantern slides may be borrowed for faculty teaching
and student presentations for a one-day period. Library staff
are available to introduce users to the classification schemes
and assist with research problems. A large light table and three
slide projectors (which do not circulate) aid users in organizing
their presentations; a small light table in the corridor is
available at all times.

The
Media Collection of films, CD-ROMs, videodiscs and videotapes
numbers more than 800 titles covering a range of subjects, including:
art, archaeology, architecture, environmental design, photography,
real estate, and urban design and planning. School of Architecture
masters theses on videocassette and videodisc are also housed
in the department.
Search Media Database, a searchable database
[temporarily unavailable], provides access
by: title; series title; personal names; geographic location,
producer and subject, with additional subject indexes and alphabetical
listing by title. Media
Collections and Resources at MIT and Beyond offers an excellent
overview to MIT Libraries and Institute resources, as well as
an introduction to media resources on the Internet.
Select videos circulate for 24-hour periods; masters theses
videos and Department of Architecture lecture videos are Room
Use only, as are CD-ROMS. To book a video for classroom use,

Photographs
may be used for research within the Library. Special collections
include the Kepes-Lynch Photograph Collection and the Archives
of Architectural Drawings and Models, which emphasizes Italian
Baroque and American architectural drawings.

in 1980, this collection of 120,000 original slides, photographs
and videotapes of Islamic Architecture is available for research
and educational reproduction.

Studio Student Archive

Over
7,000 35mm slides document selected student work (drawings and
models) collected since 1985. Searchable database features over
300+ images of student work from Spring 1998.

Photograph Collection

These
1,800 black & white mounted photographs and negatives document
the Boston urban environment during the mid-1950s prior to
urban renewal.
- Kidder-Smith
Collection of American Architecture

Architect
and photographer, G.E. Kidder-Smith, created this collection
of 3,400 35mm color slides as a survey of American Architecture.
Many were used as illustrations in his three volume work, The
Architecture of the United States, 1981
