COMMERCIAL BINDING AND SHELF PREPARATION

Shelf preparation ensures that all cataloged items will be physically accessible to our patrons. We use a variety of techniques such as call numbers, property stamps, and security devices to make books and other items easy to find and check out.

The MIT Libraries contract with a commercial binder to bind journal volumes, theses, and monographs, and to create custom enclosures and preservation photocopies. Curation and Preservation Services staff coordinate the flow of materials to and from the binder.
