MIT Libraries host visitors from China

Librarians visiting from ChinaDuring July, the MIT Libraries were pleased to host 30 librarians through a program sponsored by the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, the Chinese Librarians Scholarly Exchange Program. Each year, the program brings academic library leaders from across China to the U.S., where they spend a month visiting and learning about libraries. This summer, the group began their visit at the American Library Association’s Annual Meeting in San Francisco. They then worked their way east to MIT, where our staff introduced them to MIT collections and services and gave tours of various libraries and campus points of interest. Many in the group represented institutions with a science and technology focus and were very pleased to visit us. We, in turn, learned about trends in services for China’s growing academic community, and contributed to a growing foundation for further communication and cooperation.
