Faculty questions about course reserves | Student questions

Q. What are Music Reserves?
A. These are scores, recordings, videos/DVDs and books owned by the Lewis Music Library being used for classes taught during the current semester.

Q. How do I know what material is on reserve for my class?
A. All items on reserve are listed by course number in a notebook at the Lewis Music Library front desk. Some instructors list items that are on reserve in their class syllabus. Copies of syllabi will be in this notebook as well.

Q. How long can I use Music Reserve items?
A. Generally these items are for use in the library with a four-hour loan during the day. See below for overnight loan policy.

Q. Can I take Music reserves out of the library?
A. Many of these books and scores can be taken out overnight during the last hour before closing. They are due during the first hour of opening the following day. A few specially marked reserve cassettes can be checked out anytime during the day. These are also due during the first hour of opening the following day.

Q. How many reserve items can I check out at once?
A. One book, score and sound or video recording at a time may be checked out.

Q. What happens when items are returned late?
A. There is a significant fine for overdue reserve materials.

Q. Can reserve items be renewed?
A. Items being used in the library may be renewed once. The overnight books, score, and cassettes may not be renewed.

Q. Can a hold or "reserve" be placed on these items?
A. Holds may not be placed on reserve materials.

Q. Can overnight books, scores and recordings be returned to other libraries?
A. These items must be returned to the Lewis Music Library Circulation desk
