** README ** ** Information about the directory /libraries/www/music/ ** ~~~ The ROOT LEVEL of this directory (/music/) contains folders (sub-directories) as well as individual files. ~~~ The INDIVIDUAL FILES include the basic files needed to make the directory work: index.html music-footer.txt colorbar-template.html (which you will need if you want to create new pages in the directory) colorbar-music.css (the style sheet for this directory; any changes will affect any pages linked to it) as well as the "Questions" cluster: ask-music.html ask-music.txt thanks.html and certain other basic pages linked to from the index page: circ.html contact.html contents.html local.html othercatalogs.html reserves-faculty.html reserves.html - as well as some pages which may actually serve as intermediate steps to a sub-directory: guidecall.html (links to /music-classification/) journal.html (links to and from new-titles.html) new-titles.html (links to /news/) ~~~ The SUB-DIRECTORIES exist to prevent the root directory from filling up with confusing clutter. They include groups of files which seem related. 1) /activities/ contains index.html exhibit01.html and the attached aardvarkzoo.jpg larsen.html look-alike (which is a folder holding two sub-folders containing information about the 1995 and 1996 look-alike contests) This would be a good folder in which to place new exhibit, lecture or contest pages. 2) /facilities/ contains pages about the physical space of the library: index.html and the attached Veni.mp3 article.html canon.html and the attached canon1s.gif and canon2s.gif speech.html student-guide.html tour (which is a folder containing the Music Library Virtual Tour) 3) /img/ contains images which might be used generally in the Music Library site, but are unlikely to be used by other libraries at MIT 3.5) /images/ contains a copy of the old /images/ directory from the old site, so that back issues of the "what's the score" newsletter can still point to images here without breaking 4) /music-classification/ contains transferred and re-built pages based on the music classification page in the Staff Web directory, to which the Music Library site used to link. 5) /news/ is a directory which contains dated subfolders. For example, /401/ contains new materials for April 2001: books.html cdrom.html cds.html reference.html scores.html video.html -- and home.html, which is the April 2001 issue of "What's the Score." The index to the files contained in this folder is found in new-titles.html, at the root level of the /music/ directory. Evenutally the folder will hold more sub-directories, named according to the dates they are up-dated. The /news/ folder also includes news-index.html which is an index to the What's the Score newsletter. 6) /sheetmusic/ contains the Inventions of Note collection.
