Touchstone: Authenticated Access to MIT Libraries Resources and Services

Touchstone is a web authentication service run by Information Services and Technology (IS&T), which the MIT Libraries are using for access to a growing number of our resources and services. See: IST's MIT Touchstone Authentication System

Touchstone enables MIT users to authenticate both on campus and off with either their MIT Kerberos username or their MIT web certificates, and in some cases, non-MIT users can use Touchstone Collaboration Accounts. You can set a default for what method you want to use for access - see Reset Your Touchstone Defaults if you need to change the default.

If you have any trouble using Touchstone to authenticate to any of these resources or services, please Ask Us! for help.

Your Account in Barton

Renewing books, requesting books checked out by others, etc.

See Access to Your Account in Barton Using Touchstone for details.

Note: Privilege Card and other non-MIT borrowers may use a Touchstone Collaboration Account to get access to Your Account.

Accessing Licensed Resources

Journals, databases, and other online resources.

Your MIT status determines which e-resources you are allowed to access via Touchstone.

If you have trouble getting to a resource you think you should have access to, please Ask Us! for help. Be specific about what you are trying to access and the problem you encounter.

See Connect from on and off-campus for more information on access to e-resources.

Note: You must use Kerberos or web certificates via Touchstone to access licensed resources - you cannot use a Touchstone Collaboration Account.

Interlibrary Borrowing (ILB)

Requesting materials from non-MIT Libraries.

Interlibrary Borrowing services are limited to current MIT faculty, students, staff and visiting scholars to support their teaching, learning, research, and other Institute-related work. See Interlibrary Borrowing for details.

Illiad is the Touchstone-enabled tool you use to make and track your ILB requests - if you cannot get access to Iliiad and feel that you should be able to, please Ask us! for help.

Note: You must use Kerberos or web certificates via Touchstone to access Interlibrary Borrowing - you cannot use a Touchstone Collaboration Account.
