General Advice

If you are given a choice between PostScript (PS) or Acrobat (PDF) formats, choose PDF. The Acrobat reader is supported at MIT, and most people find PDF files easier to work with.

PostScript Files on Windows or Mac

You will need a suite of programs (Ghostscript, Ghostview and GSview) to view or print PS files. These are available from

http://www.cs.wisc.edu/~ghost/index.html

This software is not supported by IST or the Libraries.

PostScript Files on Athena

Ghostview will automatically launch when a PS file is opened.

Some journals are configured to download PostScript files rather than launching the viewer. You may download in PDF format by pressing down the Shift key while clicking on the link.

Instructions for using Ghostview and other PostScript viewers over Athena are available from IST: Previewing Postscript.

Instructions for printing downloaded PS files are available from IST's Stock Answers.
