What is a PubMed ID?

PMID = PubMed Unique Identifier

A PMID is an identifier assigned to each citation in the PubMed database of life sciences and biomedical articles. The PMID is similar to the International Standard Book Number (ISBN) for books.

Here's what one looks like:

The PMID may be entered into a PubMed search to find a particular article, or it may be entered into the SFX FullText Finder, which will link you directly to the article.
