Using MITnet in the Libraries

Have you ever wanted to connect to the MIT network while doing research in the Libraries? Now you can!

Either bring your own portable computer or the Hayden Library has laptops you can borrow that are configured and ready to go.

If you are bringing your own computer you will need:

What do we provide?

  • a place to study
  • a network connection (also called a network “drop”) or wireless MITnet connection
  • electrical power

Where can you find this service?

  • MIT net drops (DHCP access) are available at Aero/Astro (33-111), Barker (10-500), Dewey (E53-100), Humanities (14S-200), Institute Archives (14N-118), Music (14E-109), Rotch (7-238), and Science (14S-100) Libraries.
  • Wireless access is available in all divisional and branch library reading rooms. Wireless connection stability may vary in the bookstacks of the Libraries.

Where can you find help?

If you find your computer cannot connect to MITnet through one of our drops or wireless services in the library, please check to make sure you have registered for DHCP service and have configured your computer properly. If all is well with your computer, please let a circulation or reference staff person in the library know about the trouble.

For more detailed help, please refer to the MIT web pages on DHCP or wireless.
