The Boston Atlas:
Is one of the best on-line web sites for historical and current maps about Boston. Use the web site to:

  • Create and print maps of Boston directly from the web.
  • View historical maps including: 1890 Bromley, topography, and aerial photos.
  • Download current GIS files.
  • Create a 3-D map of Boston.

MIT Digital Ortho Photo Archive
  • Boston area digital orthophotos at several different zoom levels, with pan, zoom, and download functionality.
  • Digital orthos provide detailed imagery with known and consistent coordinates.
Electronic Sanborn Maps

Digitized versions of the Chadwyck-Healey Sanborn Fire Insurance Maps of Massachusetts. Years of coverage range from 1867-1970. These maps show:
  • the footprint of every building and record building size, use, address numbers.
  • vulnerability to fire, flood, and earthquakes.
  • industrial uses, dumps, parks, and cemeteries, making them useful for environmental and health assessments.
  • These maps record the social and architectural history of American cities and towns in Massachusetts.
