To locate the full text of a treaty of which the United States is a participant, begin by consulting the most recent issue of Treaties in Force.
Treaties in Force JX236.U585 Latest print edition (2002) in Dewey Library Reference Recent treaty actions since the publication of the latest issue of Treaties in Force. Indexed by country, and within each country by subject (i.e., taxation), this provides citations to the other sources (TIAS, UST, UNTS), which contain the actual text of the treaty.
Treaties and Other International Acts Series (TIAS) JX231.A342 Dewey Library stacks Official texts of treaties. These will later be cumulated in UST (see below)
United States Treaties and Other International Agreements (UST) JX231.A34 latest 10 years at Dewey Library, earlier at the Library Storage Annex (received through v.35, pt.4, 1983/84) Cumulated bound volumes of TIAS (see above)
Note: The publishing schedule of TIAS issues, as well as that of the bound volumes of UST, is very slow, and many treaties currently in force have not yet been published in these official series.

United Nations. Treaty Series (UNTS) JX170.A32 all at the Library Storage Annex
1) UST and TIAS numbers A citation from Treaties in Force such as "16 UST 1875; TIAS 5920" indicates that the full text is located on page 1875 of volume 16 of UST. The latest 10 years of UST volumes are in Dewey Library, earlier volumes are located in the Library Storage Annex, the Libraries' storage facility. When recalling UST volumes from the Annex, it's helpful to also indicate the TIAS number, if known. UST volumes are often in several parts, and the span of TIAS numbers contained in each part is indicated on the spine of each volume.
2) TIAS numbers only If the citation in Treaties in Force is to a TIAS number only, e.g., "TIAS 10960", this indicates that the UST volume has not yet been printed, and the full text of the treaty appears in Treaties and Other International Acts Series.
3) TIAS (no number) If the citation in Treaties in Force is simply "TIAS", this indicates that although the treaty is in force, the TIAS number has not yet been assigned and the official text has not been printed. In this case it may be possible to find the text in the Senate treaty document series. By law, treaties must be approved by the Senate. Treaty documents are indexed in the CIS Index (Z1223.Z7.C11 Dewey Library Reference Index Shelves) and in LexisNexis Congressional (MIT only) -- Click on "Publications"
4) UNTS numbers A citation to UNTS indicates that the treaty is a multilateral one under the auspices of the United Nations.
If a treaty is currently in force but has not yet been published in UST, TIAS, or as a Senate treaty document, the State Department's Treaty Office will provide a copy. The Treaty Office's telephone number is (202) 647-2044.
