Trade Statistics: International & U.S.

Introduction | By Country | By Commodity | U.S. | Historical | Surveys | Classifications

Most countries collect data on their imports and exports. International and regional organizations then compile countries' trade data so that trade can be compared. The UN, the OECD, and the US Census Bureau are among the organizations that publish primary sources of trade statistics.

Trade statistics sources use one or more specialized classification codes to group commodities. More about trade classifications.

Sources also vary in the currency of information and the years and countries they cover. Researchers must sometimes make trade-offs between:

  • having very current information or finer levels of product detail and
  • having time depth or a desired trade classification.

To determine which trade statistics sources at MIT Libraries might work best for your research, select an interest area from the top navigation bar.
