Social Surveys

Note: Data from many of these surveys are available via the Harvard-MIT Data Center, ICPSR, DataFerrett, and NBER.

Current Population Survey
Monthly labor force survey of about 50,000 U.S. households. For an easy way to navigate and retrieve data from selected months of the survey, try CPS Utilities, available on the Dewey Library workstation 15.

General Social Survey
Major survey on a broad range of variables on attitudes, behaviors, and attributes. This ICPSR site provides an online codebook and data retrieval system for the 1972-2000 cumulative study.

Panel Study of Income Dynamics
Longitudinal study of nearly 8,000 U.S. families, collecting data on economic, health, and social behavior since 1968.

Survey of Income and Program Participation
Measures information about the income and program participation of individuals and households in the United States.
