Roper Center for Public Opinion Research

The Roper Center for Public Opinion Research (MIT only) provides access to polls cover a range of social, business, and policy issues; include information from the U.S. and 70 foreign countries; and come from a wide variety of sources such as Gallup, Harris, Roper, ABC, CBS, CNN, NBC, Los Angeles Times, New York Times, USA Today and the Wall Street Journal.

MIT's Roper membership provides the following resources via the Roper home page:

  • Online Access to Data: access to iPOLL, their question-level online database of survey results since 1935 (note: POLL database no longer available via LexisNexis)
  • Archived Datasets: direct downloading of datasets from their catalog via RoperExpress.
  • Users will need to register in order to download data from the Roper site.

Roper datasets are comprised of micro-level data sets whose analysis requires specialized software; see our tutorials for more information on this process.

Note: Roper studies and databases may be used only by current MIT students, faculty, and staff.
