Cambridge Structural Database (MIT only)

Installation

Check out also documentation and FAQs || Troubleshootong Bugs

  • You need time - at least 30-40 minutes to do this installation.
  • You need to have MIT Certificates installed on your computer in order to download Cambridge Structural Database.
  • You need three CDROMs and software to burn CDROMS for the MAC/Unix version for copying image files onto CDs after you download the zip file on your computer. Then install the software onto your computer. This is complicated but the only way to distribute the software!
  • Installations

PC installation

  • Read readme.txt and Installation Notes!
  • Remove 2007 version
  • Download the Windows version csds-2008-win.zip to your hard drive (e.g. My Downloads, this is 1.2 GB zip file) from http://web.mit.edu/software/win.html by clicking on "Cambridge Structural Database 2008"
  • Unzip csds2008-win.zip file by right-clicking and "Selecting All"
  • Then Run the Install.bat file to start the installation. Install CSD system software and system databases.
  • Get the CSD MIT specific site number and confirmation code from https://libraries.mit.edu:447/secure/csd.html - you will need them to do the actual installation.

MAC/UNIX installation

  • Note: UNIX version works on Macs but is still considered beta-version. The MIT Libraries are not able support or troubleshoot any problems with Macs!
  • Read readme.txt and Installation Notes!
  • Remove 2007 version!
  • Download the ISO image of Unix/Mac version called csds2008-unix.tgz to your hard drive (this is 1.0 GB zip file) from http://web.mit.edu/software/linux.html by clicking on "Cambridge Structural Database 2008".
  • Unarchive the image file csds2008-unix.tgz into a folder called csds2008-unix. You will see four files:
    • csds2008-unix-1of3.iso
    • csds2008-unix-2of3.iso
    • csds2008-unix-3of3.iso
    • mitreadme.txt (Read this!!)
  • Mount the first image, csds2008-unix-1of3.iso. This will create a image called csds-v258. Burn this image to the first CD using DiskUtility" or other CD-burning software.
  • Similarly, mount csds2008-unix-2of3.iso and csds2008-unix-3of3.iso to burn two more CDs.
  • Get the CSD MIT specific site number and confirmation code from https://libraries.mit.edu:447/secure/csd.html - you will need them to do the actual installation.
  • Insert the 1st CD to CD drive, and follow the installation instructions. Insert the 2nd & 3rd CD when they are asked to complete the installation.

Athena terminal access

  • add cambsd
  • cq (to run ConQuest)
  • mercury (to run Mercury)
  • vista (to run Vista)
  • prequest (to run PreQuest)
  • mogul (to run Mogul)
