The Libraries provide limited in-person reference and telephone assistance to outside users: help with the online catalog and referral to collections and services. Full reference service is provided only for Federal government depository collections. The Libraries do not provide research service to outside users.
Preference for workstation use is given to MIT users, except for government document depository access, which is made equally available to all. Please note that access to some electronic resources is restricted to current students, faculty and staff of MIT, due to licensing agreements. Reference desks have details. Public access to Barton, the MIT Libraries online catalog, is at http://libraries.mit.edu/barton. See Computer Use Policy for more information on the use of public workstations.
Copies and prints for MIT visitors cost $.15 per page, payable by Guest Tech Cash. Visitors may purchase Guest Tech Cash cards at the vending machines in Barker, Dewey, Hayden, and Rotch libraries. No MIT affiliation is required to use these services.
