downloadable from: http://seamless.usgs.gov and http://nationalmap.gov

MASSGIS Land Use - The MassGIS Land Use datalayer has 37 land use classifications interpreted from 1:25,000 aerial photography for the state of MA. Coverage is complete statewide for 1971, 1985, and 1999. Additionally, more than half the state was interpreted from aerial photography flown during 1990, 1991, 1992, 1995 or 1997. The 15 towns on Cape Cod also contain land use data for 1951.

USGS Land Cover Institute

Global Land Cover Facility - The GLCF is a center for land cover science with a focus on research using remotely sensed satellite data and products to assess land cover change for local to global systems. Providese access to Landsat, Aster, MODIS, AVHRR and SRTM products.

Global Land Cover Characterization - 1-km resolution global land cover characteristics data base based on 1-km Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR) data spanning April 1992 through March 1993. Version 1.2 was released in 1997 and has been subjected to a formal accuracy assessment (the IGBP DISCover classification). Version 2.0 is a revised version of the database, and it has not had a formal accuracy assessment performed.
