Barker Library Media Suite: Copyright Information
Classroom / face-to-face instruction use
- All Barker Library media materials may be used in face-to-face classroom instruction, following the Copyright Act (Section 110).
- Most classroom uses of films and videotapes are permissible, provided that the showing is by instructors, guest lecturers, or teaching assistants (TAs) and is done in connection with face-to-face teaching activities.
- The Barker Library also follows the Fair Use Guidelines for Educational Multimedia.
Unrestricted “Public Performance Rights”
Many of the documentary and educational videos in the Library's collection are purchased with "Public Performance Rights." This allows users to show the materials in class and to campus groups without violating copyright laws.
Restricted to individual viewing (or groups 1-4)
Videos which are designated as "Small group / individual viewing only" are so labeled. These videos should not be used for any non-classroom public performance (even if no fee is charged).
