Scanning and other eConversion
We serve as an on-campus resource for conversion of paper and microform documents to electronic formats. Some services are carried on-site, and others are outsourced to selected vendors specializing in particular formats.

Examples of the types of materials submitted for scanning and eConversion by MIT Departments, Labs, and Centers would be technical reports, working papers, and course materials bound for the Web.

Optical character recognition (OCR) can be incorporated when scanning or it can be applied to existing electronic files in order to enhance text search ability.

Examples of commonly scanned materials:

  • groups of MIT Publications (technical reports, working papers, newsletters, etc.)
  • lab notebooks
  • department records, correspondence
