Services can scan and convert paper documents to electronic format
(PDF) for web based courseware applications such as Stellar,
SloanSpace, Command, or Open CourseWare to support teaching and
learning at MIT.

- Send
an email scanning@mit.edu

Include a copy of your reading list/syllabus
- Include
your contact information, class number, and MIT account
number for billing
- Let
us know if you've requested Electronic Course Reserves

is the cost? |
- Costs
for E-Reserves
materials in Stellar will be paid by the MT Libraries.
- All
other materials: ~$9 per article (surcharge $.15/page over
30 pages)

long will it take? |
- 3-5
business days

don't have paper copies of articles. Can someone get
the books and scan them for me? |
- Deliver
list of requested readings to: Course Scanning, Document
Services, Bldg 14-0551 or email to scanning@mit.edu
- Include

must be in the collection of the MIT Libraries - search:

If not owned by MIT or if missing from the shelf,
MIT users can request the article through Interlibrary
Borrowing.

- For
best scanning results, send original materials.
- Deliver
print materials to: Course Scanning, Document Services,

Articles should be complete, legible, and include a
bibliographic citation
- Print
materials that are illegible or incomplete will not be scanned.
- If
a legible copy of the item can be found in the MIT Libraries
collections, Document Services will attempt to scan
the library copy.
- You
may be asked to supply an alternate copy.

does it work? |
- Articles
will be scanned and converted to PDF format
- Articles
will be delivered to you via CD-Rom or Web-Docs
- Access
your course web site, upload the PDF files, and they will
be available to your students

Optical
character recognition (OCR) is incorporated into the PDF file during
the scanning process in order to enhance text searchability and
accessibility.
The
MIT Libraries subscribe to many electronic resources for use by
the MIT community. Many articles required for web courseware may
already be available in electronic form.
