Industrial Relations Collection
The Collection

Dewey Library's Industrial Relations Collection was begun in 1938 and is one of the oldest collections in this subject in the United States. It is a research collection concentrating in labor-management relations, human resource management, personnel administration, career development, industrial psychology and sociology, organizational groups, social insurance, and labor in foreign countries.

For information on new items, see Recent Additions to the Collections: Work + Employment. Updates are also available via an RSS feed.

Location of Materials

Books, serials and periodicals are listed in Barton, the MIT Libraries' Catalog, and are shelved with the general Dewey collection.

In addition, Dewey has a historical collection of over 55,000 pamphlets, reprints, and labor union materials. The Pamphlet Collection is housed in two areas: items acquired 1964-1987 are located in the basement journals area. Items acquired 1938-1963 are in a closed-access area and may be requested at the service desk. Pre-1964 materials do not circulate and must be used in the library. A card catalog located on the second floor contains author and subject records for this material. Ask at the service desk if you need assistance in using the Catalog.
