Overview | Using MIT theses | Search Barton: MIT Libraries' catalog

Citations for all cataloged MIT theses may be found in the Libraries' catalog, Barton.

Circulating copies of some theses may be available at MIT divisional libraries. The permanent copies of theses (as well as microfiche copies) maintained by the Institute Archives can be used in the Archives reading room in 14N-118. Theses used in the Archives must be ordered at least 24-48 hours in advance because they are stored off site. To request a thesis, contact the Archives staff at Ask the Archives!

Many theses, including all theses submitted to the Libraries since 2004, are available online in DSpace@MIT. MIT theses that have been scanned and deposited into DSpace@MIT are openly accessible to anyone. To purchase printed softbound copies of MIT theses, or to request copies of theses not yet added to DSpace@MIT, contact MIT Document Services.

Drawings from Department of Architecture theses, 1872-1968, were separated from the text and are housed at the MIT Museum.

For information about the policies and technical specifications that must be followed to comply with Graduate School regulations and to ensure long-term preservation of your thesis, see the most recent Specifications for Thesis Preparation.
