Letter of Recommendation from Joseph Henry,
July 6, 1835
Mr William Rogers of Virginia is well known as an ardent and successful cultivator of science. I am personally acquainted with him and have a very high opinion of his talents and acquirements. He is one of those who not content with retailing the untested opinions and discoveries of European Philosophers endeavor to enlarge the boundaries of useful knowledge by experiments and observations of their own. Should Mr Rogers' life and health be spared I am confident he will do much towards elevating the scientific character of our country. |
