Heather Denny August 24, 2004 The MIT Libraries are pleased to announce expanded hours for the Institute Archives and Special Collections reading room (14N-118). As of Tuesday, September 7, 2004 the reading room will be open from 10:00 AM until 4:00 PM, Monday through Thursday, except during Institute holidays. The staff of the Institute Archives and Special Collections will continue to be available Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM by email or telephone. The Institute Archives and Special Collections serves as a "memory" for MIT, collecting, preserving, and making accessible records that document MIT's history. The collections chronicle the founding and growth of MIT. They also provide insight into current issues of the Institute as well as MIT's impact on the world. In addition to being the source for information on MIT history, the Institute Archives and Special Collections is an important resource for the study of the history of science and technology and is utilized by researchers from around the globe. The collections consist of official administrative and academic records of the Institute, personal papers of MIT faculty, staff, students, and related organizations, as well as MIT publications and theses. The Institute Archives and Special Collections also maintains the MIT rare book collections and oversees the Institute's Records Management Program.
