MIT Libraries publishes new home page: June 2004

In June of 2004, the MIT Libraries updated their home page. New features include:

• How do I?....
• Tip of the Week/Hot Topic/Featured Service/Featured Resource (changes weekly)
• Barton catalog quick search
• Revised "quick links"
• Photo stripe ("Curious?" link)

It also includes important improvements to the code:
• Uses standards-compliant code (XHTML transitional).
• Includes more features for accessibility, such as "access keys" for skipping to major content.

The changes are based on results of usability testing and feedback from our users. The new home page gives more flexibility for special announcements and helps new users get started, with features such as "how do I find an article?"

The rest of the web site was redesigned in 2001. We are taking an incremental approach to redesign with different sections of our site being updated in different years. In future years we will redesign the templates for other sections of our site. This year we are focusing on the home page.

The graphic design is by Hecht Design in consultation with the MIT Libraries' Web Advisory Group.
